La Palma Airport Closed due to ash cloud
La Palma Airport is inoperative this Thursday due to accumulation of ash from the Cumbre Vieja volcano and more than thirty flights have been cancelled, according to Aena sources. Today, a total of 34 inter-island and national flights had been planned, which were cancelled by the different companies since yesterday, Wednesday.
Aena sources have indicated that the cleaning tasks will begin once ash stops falling on the runway, which at this time makes operation impossible.
The slopes most affected by the ash fall are being the eastern and northern slopes of the island, and the disposition of the cloud is affecting the operation of the Airport.
