La Palma Volcano Update
5,000 people are being evacuated from El Paso, Tazacorte and Los Llanos
Following the eruptions in La Palma, the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan is underway with the alert level now raised to red. Guardia Civil are reporting an evacuation of more than 5,000 people from various areas within the El Paso, Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane municipailties,
Schools will be closed tomorrow in the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos and Tazacorte
The Guardia Civil has 11 Citizen Security patrols, 3 traffic patrols, a maritime service patrol and a helicopter deployed in the area.
Emergency Services are asking the public to remain calm with the advice to, close doors and windows of their houses, switch off water, gas and electricity supplies before leaving
They also ask that if evaculated you carry documentation plus a mobile phone and battery-operated radio if possible
Pets should also be evacuated
