Mayor Welcomes High courts decision

he mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has welcomed the fact that the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) has upheld the petition of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands and lifted the closure of the interior of hotels and restaurants and the 50% limit on the capacity of terraces imposed by the Government of the Canary Islands in Tenerife when the island went to Level 3 alert.

Bermúdez said via his Twitter profile that the decision was taken without any “convincing and objective data” and left “at risk” the activity of thousands of businesses and self-employed people, who have been hard hit for 15 months by the economic crisis.

In the specific case of Santa Cruz, he said that the City Council will maintain the ‘express terraces’ while there are health restrictions and will continue to apply tax rebates and promote consumption through vouchers as a way of “mitigating the situation of this sector, which is key to the economy of Tenerife”.
