The flu vaccination campaign will begin on October 28
The Canary Islands Government’s Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, this morning presented the flu vaccination campaign for the 2021-22 season, which is being carried out in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The operation is planned to start on 28 October and the vaccine will be administered in health centres. In addition this year, people over 70 years of age will be offered the possibility of receiving the flu vaccine and the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time, in different arms.
The Minister reminded the public that by vaccinating the at-risk population against influenza, we are also preventing the coexistence of the two infections, influenza and COVID-19 in the same person, a complicated situation about which there is little experience at the moment. In addition, the stress and risk of collapse that can be caused to the health system at a time when a COVID-19 pandemic and a seasonal flu epidemic coincide will be minimised.
